Beginning Your Garden

A key element to having a great Calgary landscape design is to fence it in. In many areas the wildlife will consume the fruits and vegetables as soon as they sprout, yielding little or no harvest. A good fence will not only keep out the wildlife, but it will keep out the neighborhood children from playing ball and pets from digging.

But, if you’re thinking about growing flower and placing them in a container make sure that you water them and feed them regularly, and that the pots have adequate drainage. Because there is limited soil in the pot, you need to pay more attention to the soil conditions. If the drainage is not adequate your plants will result in root rot.

One other thing to take note of if you’re growing flowers is when their leaves are curling. This probably means they are not getting enough nutrients. The soil might not be rich enough, or some insects might be stealing the nutrients from your flowers. Look for eggs or bugs around the roots of your plants. Buy insecticide or additional nutrients for your plants.

Also, make sure you remove the weeds from your garden! Weeds can take a promising garden and turn it into a shell of its potential. It's important to remove the weeds in the garden at least once a week. To help you do this, you may want to consider using white vinegar. White vinegar can kill weeds! So, may a spray solution of white vinegar if you are tired of pulling those weeds by hand.

As mentioned, you need to be sure to water your plants. Water your garden daily. Without daily water, your garden may quickly turn sour. If the idea of pulling out a hose daily is too much for you to stomach, consider installing some sort of sprinkler system. There is a cost, but it can save a lot of headaches and actually pay for itself via a healthy crop!
